Kitchen Renovation Update

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you all on our kitchen reno. Well up till this week nothing has really happened. I know it’s been two months since the announcement but apparently these things take time. Have I mentioned in the past that I don’t have a ton of patience! Anyway, this is the low down.

  • Andy, Michaela and I removed all the stuff from the cabinets on the weekend and removed  them as well as we took all the wainscoting off that was in the kitchen
  • the gas line has been relocated and because we had the technician already there we but a natural gas line in the backyard for the BBQ (we also found a great deal on a Weber BBQ on Kijiji as well but that’s a whole other story)
  • the majority of cabinets that we will be using came from another kitchen that is being redone. The benefits to this is it keeps our cost low and keep the cabinets out of the landfill. Rest assured the cabinets are in great shape. If they weren’t Kitchen Fitters wouldn’t be using them.
  • Kitchen Fitters have an old white porcelain sink (think farm-house style) that came out of a previous job. I was looking for one of these and they cost a fortune to buy new so score 2 for us.
  • I bought white subway tiles at the ReStore  for $74 total and it’s more than enough to do the backsplash
  • new floors are ordered but won’t arrive for 3 weeks. Remember above when I said I was impatient? yea we’re back to that.
  • the one thing I just can’t seem to accomplish is picking a new light for the kitchen. The kitchen only has one light so I need to make sure the light purchased lights the room well. Down the road we’ll have and electrician in and add more lights but for now we have what we have.

So today was probably my most frustrating day since all of this began. I hate having the kitchen tore apart, my dining room is a mess, and I didn’t get any of the answers today that I really need to feel like I can move forward. Tomorrow should be better as cabinets are being delivered, and painting is being done. For tonight however I will sit and enjoy a glass of wine and dream about what will be.

Wish me luck.
